Take Action
Act
Hold an ECPAT-USA fundraiser at your home.
Decide on an amount of money to charge, provide dinner, brunch or snacks. Distribute ECPAT-USA information about the commercial sexual exploitation of children. At the event, encourage people to take other action steps listed here.
Sponsor a Panel Discussion.
Invite a guest speaker to your church, club, school or other venue to talk about some aspect of the commercial sexual exploitation of children. In some cases, ECPAT-USA can provide a speaker or identify people in your area who might be willing to speak.
Patronize a Responsible Company.
When you travel for business or pleasure or if you are organizing a conference, use a company that has demonstrated its commitment to protecting children by patronizing companies that signed the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism.
Write letters.
Write letters to U.S. hotel companies asking them to sign the Code of Conduct.
Find out who owns the airport in your city and ask the administrator to post signs in departure lounges informing all passengers that it is against the law to sexually exploit children everywhere. Under the U.S. PROTECT Act, sex tourists can be prosecuted after their return to the U.S. for exploiting a child in another country. Many people don’t know about it or what to do if they suspect it is going on. Contact ECPAT-USA to find out more information.
